Types of 1913 Antique Cars
|
If you are looking for 1913 antique cars you may find it interesting and helpful to learn more about the cars made during this period. The history of the automobile is one that is divided into eras. For example, the Veteran Era lasted from approximately 1888 to 1905. The first vehicles were manufactured in France, Germany and the United States. The very first automobile company, Panhard et Levassor, formed in France during this time. Although much progress was made during this era, the automobile was seen more as an unnecessary novelty rather than something that people needed.
That all changed during the Brass Era, also known as the Edwardian Era. This era spanned from 1905 to 1914 and saw the automobile go from novelty to necessity. During this time several innovations were made, including electric ignition in 1903 and the electric self starter in 1911. The Ford Model T was the most widely produced car of this time period. This vehicle used what was called a planetary transmission and used a pedal based system of control. Also called the Tin Lizzie and the Flivver, this car was made from 1908 to 1927 by the Ford Motor Company.
The year 1913 was the first year of what could be called the black-and-brass era. This is because the windshield, side lights, acetylene generator and horn were all painted solid black with accents of brass. Previously to this, these parts were all brass. You will find many Model T Fords from 1913 that are black and brass. The Model T wasn't the only car on the road in 1913. Another popular automobile from this year was the Cadillac.
The Cadillac was one of the most luxurious 1913 antique cars. The price for one of these beauties was approximately $1975, a lot of money in 1913. The Cadillac had a smooth, fluid appearance and featured inside controls, cowls on all bodies, selective sliding gear transmission, three forward speeds and one reverse, and more great features. While Cadilliac and Ford are still in existence today, some car companies from in 1913 are not. American Electric is a car company that only lasted from 1913 to 1914 and was a merger of three different electric car companies. While you are likely to find lots of classic Cadillacs and Model Ts for sale from this year, you probably won't find any from the American Electric company because they are very rare.
